​In its ministry, the Session provides the primary leadership of the church. Session is composed of "Elders", who are men and women that have the gifts of leadership, discernment, and administration.

The work of Session is done through committees, which are chaired by Session members, but any member of the church can join these groups:
  • Spiritual Growth
  • Worship and Music
  • Mission and Outreach
  • Personnel
  • Supportive Services
  • Finance
The session shall have responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness.

Who are the Deacons?

A Deacon in the Presbyterian Church is a church member who is elected and ordained to a particular function in the church. The ministry of the board of deacons is under the supervision and authority of the session and carried out through various teams. Our Deacons are elected members of the church who have particular gifts and calling in areas of compassion, mercy, and helping. 
 Some of the Deacon's Projects include Quarterly Blood Drive, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Washington City Mission Collections, visiting our elderly and home-bound members, writing letters to college students away from home, and making gift baskets for our shut-ins.

Deacons provide at-home communion when needed and seek ways to give comfort and help when they become aware of the needs of church members and others in the community.

Stephen Ministry is a ministry of compassion and presence in those times in life when we may need a listening ear and a compassionate friend (times of grief and loss, times of transition, times of stress, etc.). Stephen Ministers are not professional counselors, but are trained to be a companion, a listener, and a non-anxious presence for those in difficult seasons of life.
The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress.
