Earlier this month, Tropical Cyclone Freddy unleashed destructive floods and landslides on the southern African countries of Malawi and Mozambique and the island nation of Madagascar off Africa’s southeastern coast. After a record-breaking rampage, Freddy has caused 579 deaths in the three countries. Malawi was hit the hardest with at least 476 victims and nearly half a million people displaced. Bethel Presbyterian Church has two ministry partners in the country of Malawi. Nthemba Congregation is located in the hardest hit areas of Malawi, an many church members and neighbors faced significant damage to their homes. Nthemba is working to get aid to those in their community. Also, Living Waters Church in the northern part of the country, is actively arranging aid and assistance and taking it directly to those in need.
Bethel Presbyterian Church has already sent initial emergency funds to both of these ministries, and we are now gathering additional monetary donations to send directly to these congregations and ministries to hasten their response work. Donations will be collected through April 12th. To donate, click on the green "give" button below and select Malawi relief from the drop down menu. |
Giving is a joyful act of gratitude, trust, and hope. |
ways to give |
Giving is not about earning our place in heaven and it is not about having a place of power or privilege in God's family. It is not an act of drudgery or duty. Rather, it is simply about being so very thankful for how God has blessed us in this place and doing our part to make sure that BPC continues to be a blessing for others.
If you have been blessed by a worship service, comforted or challenged by a sermon, moved by the music of choir, bells, or praise band...if you have found fellowship and grown in your faith in a small group, Bible study, or class...if your children have been loved and experienced Jesus in this place...if you have been cared for by a pastor, encouraged by a staff member, or supported by the church family during a difficult time...if you have found a place to use your gifts to bring hope and joy to a hurting world through the ministries of this church...if your life has been touched by the people and programs of BPC in any way... know that your ongoing financial support makes all those things possible for you and your family now, and will ensure that they are there for others in years to come. Giving is about keeping our doors open to welcome all those who are seeking a place of hope, truth, encouragement and peace. Giving is about keeping the music playing and the Word proclaimed, it is about keeping the coffee warm, groups meeting, and and the light of Christ shining. All the financial resources for all we do come completely from the loving gifts of members and friends of our church. Without people so who faithfully and generously give as an act of worship, gratitude, trust, and hope- we simply would not be able to continue. Giving is about being a part of something bigger than we are alone. But it is also personal- a decision you make, prayerfully, as you seek God's will. But it is not complicated. It can be a simple as asking- How have I been blessed by this church? Is my giving in proportion to all I have received? |
