Our Staff

Pastor: Rev. Dr. Cathie Smith
Reverend Dr. Cathie Smith assumed the duties of Pastor in June, 2016.  A graduate of Purdue University, she earned a Masters of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and a Doctorate in Ministry through Western Theological Seminary. The emphasis of her doctoral work was on baptismal identity and worship. Pastor Cathie is passionate about nurturing families of faith-and the family of faith-through meaningful worship, thoughtful exploration of Scripture, and getting hands and feet dirty as we continue Christ's work in the world. Rev. Smith and her husband, Joel, met while they were students at Purdue University.  The Smith family has three children:  Ben, a graduate of Miami University of Ohio; Jacob, a graduate of  Purdue University; and Emily, who is a senior in high school.
Parish Associate: Rev. Dr. James K. Smith
Rev. Dr. James K. Smith, Sr. earned a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He served as Student Pastor and then Pastor of Hookstown and Millcreek Presbyterian Churches from 1959-1962; Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church (Harrisburg) from 1962-1969; and Pastor of Baldwin United Presbyterian Church from 1969-2006. Prior to, and into his retirement, he was employed by HCR/Manorcare from 1987-2006 as Facility Chaplain and then Director of Chaplains. Pastor Jim continues to lead weekly chapel services at Manorcare in Whitehall. As Parish Associate at Bethel, Pastor Jim provides pastoral care for church members through visits, calls, and encouragement.
Director of Youth Ministries: Kasey Wilfong
Kasey graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2015 and from La Roche College in 2019 with a bachelors degree in Health Science and a minor in psychology. Kasey enjoys playing guitar, babysitting her nieces and nephews and hanging with her family. Kasey has been a member of Bethel Pres. since she was little, and she is passionate about helping our students know the welcome, care, and love she has known in the church family.
Director of Music: Jason Wilcox
Jason Wilcox received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from West Virginia University. With a concentration in trumpet, Jason also has an extensive choral background and is equally at home with instrumental and choral music. A scholarship recipient at WVU, Jason performed with the West Virginia University Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, University Choir, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Orchestra, along with several other small chamber ensembles. For high school students interested in careers in music, Jason initiated the project “Music Major for a Day”, which continues to this day.  Formerly on the band staffs at Baldwin High School, Bentworth High School, Brentwood High School, and Keystone Oaks High School Marching Bands, Jason also serves as the Assistant Conductor for the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.  Additionally, Jason serves as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services in local Pittsburgh communities.
Organist: Cody Soska
Cody joined the staff of Bethel Presbyterian Church in the fall of 2015 as our organist. In addition to joyfully leading the congregation in worship through hymn singing and service music, he accompanies the Chancel Choir, Bell Choir, and special ensembles on the pipe organ and piano. Cody has practiced his craft his entire life and strives to bring energy and excitement in all he plays. He has studied music composition and pipe organ at Carnegie Mellon University. His studies have taken him to Europe and he is overjoyed at the opportunity to play an instrument he loves every week at Bethel. He is continuing his studies at CMU in physical computing and loves using his artistic background to create computing artifacts that change people's lives. In his spare time, Cody is almost always found at the gym where he enjoys playing racquetball and lifting weights.
