How are YOU called to shine Christ's light?

Our mission calls us to live out our faith in the community and world by...
Sharing the hope that is in us.
Exhibiting Heaven to the world in word and deed.
Engaging in God's work in the world for justice, mercy, and peace.
Caring for the needs of our neighbors and reaching out with the welcoming love of Christ.

Our congregation has accepted the PC(USA)’s invitation to follow Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 25 by becoming active disciples and making a difference in our community and the world, pledging to embrace one or more of these three areas of focus:
•
Building congregational vitality by deepening and energizing our faith and growing as joyful leaders and disciples actively engaged with our community as we share the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed
•
Dismantling structural racism by fearlessly applying our faith to advocate and break down the systems, practices and thinking that underlie discrimination, bias, prejudice and oppression of people of color
•
Eradicating systemic poverty by acting on our beliefs and working to change laws, policies, plans and structures in our society that perpetuate economic exploitation of people who are poor.
We live out this commitment in our life together, our engagemnt withe the community, and in creative partnerships with other congregations and ministries in our region and around th world.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the second Saturday of each month for our next Food Drop-Off from 9:00am until 1:00pm to give what you 'can' to help those in need. Items will be received in the church parking lot- it is as simple as driving up. Donations of food are given to the SHIM food pantry. Diapers, wipes, and children's clothing are given to the Duqesne Blessing Store. Adult clothing is collected in the drop off box in the lower parking lot off Marshall Road and will be distributed through Washington City Mission.

Our Mission Partners

The members and friends of Bethel Presbyterian Church generously give their time, energy, and financial gifts in a wide variety of ways in the community and world- in faithful response to Christ's call to "let your light shine." We partner with the following churches, agencies, and efforts through our financial giving and hands-on support:

Homestead Presbyterian Church
A new partnership in 2022 has us joining forces with the great congregation of Homestead Presbyterian Church to provide a weekly opportunity for children in the Homestead area to gather for a fun time in a safe space to enjoy snacks, games, and crafts as they hear stories of God's faithfulness and the love of Jesus. Volunteers from Bethel will travel to HPC on Sunday afternoons this fall for our first session of this new, exciting partnership.

Crestfield Camp & Conference Center
Camping and outdoor ministries provide a wonderful way for people of all ages to connect with God in a powerful way. Crestfield offers year-round retreat facilities, programs, and special events to nurture others in their experience with God, through Jesus Christ, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Many of our church family have been greatly impacted by the ministries of Crestifield, and we are proud to financially support this great work.

Therapy Clinics International
We partner with missionary, Jennifer Hoines, who founded and runs Therapy Clinics International which provides physical therapy in the mountain villages of Guatemala- for chilren and adults who are unable due to distance and availablity to access the life-changing help of therapy. We are proud to partner financially with Jennifer to provide for the costs of this mission and to also sponsor of her care-givers.

Pittsburgh Presbytery and Presbyterian Church (USA)
Through our financial contributions to Pittsburgh Presbytery and our national denominational special offerings our gifts are added to those of other congregations in our region and across the nation to make an even greater impact for numerous mission and justice efforts throughout the nation and world.

SHIM (South Hills Interfaith Movement)
SHIM’s mission as an interfaith organization is to actively extend God’s love with dignity and respect to the people of the South Hills of Pittsburgh. SHIM provides assistance to those in need in the South Hills communities- through its food bank, job connection services, utility assistance, after school programs for children, community gardens, and more.  We are proud to partner with SHIM financially, in our ongoing and special collections for the food pantry and school supply drives, and in volunteering our time in work teams and groups throughout the year.

A Mission Center

We are blessed with our beautiful building and convenient location- and seek to use those blessings in a way that provides for help, healing, and wholeness for the people of our community.

We are proud to have Meals on Wheels operate out of our kitchen 5 days a week, year-round, providing healthy meals  delivered to the door of neighbors who are unable, for a variety of reasons, to cook and prepare meals for themselves. We partner with Meals on Wheels thorugh financial support, volunteers from our church family, and special projects through the year.

We are grateful to supply a place for Alcoholics Anonymous to meet for weekly support and encouragement, as we prayerfully hold up those who are so bravely fighting for recovery.

We are glad to host the Lions Club for their meetings, alowing them to gather and plan for their good work of commnity support and humanitarian aid.

Throughout the week and year, we are blessed by having our scout groups in the church: meeting, working, helping, and serving in so many ways, as young people gather for adventure and skill building and build life-long friendships.

Our Preschool and Childcare programs have been a place of support for area families for years- providing children a safe and happy place to grow and learn, and parents a sense of peace of mind as they balance the demands of work and other commitments.

All throughout the week, groups and organizatons that support families, older adults, children with special needs, those in need, those in recovery, and more are provided space to meet, to gather, to find support, and to care. We are glad to be able to be that mission home from which and in which so many lives are touched and helped in so many ways.
